My work is about my visceral reactions to what I see around me. My reactions to the world around me are feeling-based, and l work in response to those feelings. I need to capture what I see, and then enhance it to match my feelings at the time of the observation. My subject matter varies but is mainly interiors and landscape in nature, urban or suburban environments. But the subject matter itself is less important to me than what the composition, its forms, light, and shadow conveys in expressive content.
I try to pay close attention to the world around me, no matter where I am. As Thich Nhat Hanh said in his book, The Art of Living, “There are wonders of life we walk past every day, and yet we haven’t truly seen them. What is the cypress tree on the path you take to work every day? If you cannot even see the tree, how can you see your loved ones? How can you see God?”
